The Roush Active Exhaust flow control system is patent pending and stands out as a unique offering in the automotive industry. This system allows vehicle owners to customize their exhaust note according to their driving conditions and preferences. The accompanying Active Exhaust App for iOS not only enables the monitoring of the system's operation within the vehicle but also empowers users to create customized sound profiles for their vehicles. Whether you're on the track or cruising through town, this system puts you in command.
In the 2015 Mustang with Quad Tip exhaust, there are dual tailpipe exhaust valves situated in each respective tailpipe. These valves are positioned within the low restriction exhaust path of a dual outlet muffler, located near the exhaust tip. Opening a tailpipe exhaust valve directs the low restriction exhaust path to the atmosphere, resulting in a more pronounced exhaust note. The valves offer adjustable control, allowing for varied degrees of openness.
The system features four distinct exhaust performance modes that dictate the behavior of the exhaust tailpipe valves. These modes can be easily selected using a switch inside the vehicle cabin or via the mobile application:
- TRACK: In this mode, exhaust tailpipe valves remain open continuously when the engine is running—primarily suited for track use and not intended for legal road operation.
- SPORT: Here, exhaust tailpipe valves open during engine idle and under aggressive driving or higher speeds, providing a more dynamic sound profile. This pre-loaded setting offers increased aggressiveness compared to stock while remaining road legal. The valve state is determined by accelerator pedal position and vehicle speed once the engine is running.
- CUSTOM TUNE: Users can personalize the exhaust sound in this mode by adjusting valve opening and closing via the mobile application and a WiFi dongle linked to the vehicle's diagnostic connector. Tailoring valve operation based on vehicle speed and accelerator position is entirely within the user's control, allowing for a fully customized sound experience.
- TOURING: Exhaust tailpipe valves stay closed at all times under this mode, providing a quieter driving experience.
